Hinamori Momo was, and may still be, one of the most headstrong fighters in all of Soul Society. She's prone to impulsive attacks, and when she's truly passionate about a fight, she'll refuse to back down until she is either fatally wounded or knocked unconscious (or, well, killed). Momo is a master of kidou, an ancient art practiced by Shinigami and most who have mastered their reiatsu. She graduated with top scores from the Shinigami Academy and was eventually promoted to the spot as Vice Captain of the Fifth Division due to her advanced skills in swordplay and kidou control.

With her sword (or, zanpakutou), Tobiume, she can release advanced kidou attacks and a shikai, which is essentially one-step below a Shinigami's ultimate skill, the bankai. When her sword is released and she performs her shikai she is able to launch fire-based attacks in several shapes and forms -- primarily, though, she either releases fireballs or streams of fire from her sword. Zanpakutou commonly have spirits of their own, and Hinamori's bond with her Zanpakutou seems to be very strong, which gives her the upper hand in battle due to how well she can control the sword.

When she gives herself the time to actually think in battle, as opposed to rushing in impulsively (which happens a lot) she can be a bit of a tactical genius, planning out surprise attacks to take out foes that are far more powerful than she is.

Despite all of this, Momo can be incredibly irrational; due to previous trauma caused by the betrayal of her former captain, she is prone to nervous breakdowns and emotional surges, which usually end horribly for her. She is impulsive and, when provoked, irrationally violent, having a sort of untapped anger that is only spurred on by her current emotional handicap. She'll literally go into hysterics in battle if she is driven into it, and in that instance, anything is fair game. She's lashed out at people who care for her in the past, accusing them of false crimes and attacking them without provocation.

Momo is well-read and creative, preferring to keep herself busy by losing herself the library of the fifth division and drawing, which she is especially talented in. She trusts easily and is especially devoted to her friends, though this loyalty can easily been broken by her even stronger love for her former captain. On a normal basis, though, Hinamori is peaceful and studious, preferring to keep herself busy by managing the fifth division's books and helping run errands for other captains.
